F.A.Q.s

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SPORTS MASSAGE AND A DEEP TISSUE?

  • A sports massage uses techniques focused on injury prevention and rehabilitation most commonly for athletes and/or clients who experience repetitive strain in a job or athletic environment. Sports Massage techniques can be considered aggressive or intense depending on the clients pain tolerance, although our therapists' intentions are never to hurt or harm, especially when using techniques like IASTM, trigger point therapy, PNF, or assisted stretching. Deep Tissue can often have the "hurt so good" feeling but is usually more relaxing than a Sports Massage.

WHAT IS A DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE? WILL IT HURT?

  • A deep tissue massage is a very relaxing massage focusing on accessing a clients deeper muscles. Humans, like any animal-or like onions- have many layers of tissue and often in a "spa type" or "therapeutic massage" the therapist is only accessing the most superficial layer of muscle and tissue and although feels great, it doesnt usually resolve issues. A deep tissue massage will leave you feeling relaxed yet also like your muscular dysfunctions and discomforts were treated and resolved. A Deep Tissue massage should never hurt!!! While accessing the deeper muscles does require more pressure, your therapist will start off with light pressure and slowly, as long as your body responds positively (no inflammation, spasms, etc.) then your therapist will increase the pressure.

WILL I RECEIVE A "HAPPY ENDING?"

  • NO! LUDUS Sports Massage is a professional and licensed massage therapy practice and we do not tolerate any form of sexual activity inside or outside of our office, during business hours or after, whether verbal, physical, or written. Violators and offenders will immediately be escorted off the property by authorities and blocked from making appointments, calling or texting our therapists and staff. All violators and offenders will also be required to pay for their session in FULL.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOR MY FIRST MASSAGE?

  • When you arrive, youll be given a brief health questionnaire to fill out in the lobby. Its nothing too intense and its mostly to find out if theres anything your therapist should know before getting started, like current injuries, previous car accidents or serious medical issues. When youre finished, youll be escorted to the treatment room with your therapist to privately discuss the intake form and your goals for the session. All of this isnt a test that you have to prepare for; there are no wrong answers. We just want to get to know more about you and your specific needs to prepare for the session.

  • Before the massage starts, your therapist will guide you on how to position yourself on the table and how undressed to get. We will be honest, clothing for certain types of massage does make it more difficult to give specific treatments you may require BUT its all about what makes YOU comfortable. Most clients will undress completely while leaving their undies on while others go completely nude. If you want to wear all your clothing, thats fine too. No matter what, you will always be professionally and securely draped with sheets.

  • Once you are on the table, theres really nothing you need to do but relax and breathe...if anything, please just communicate with your therapist if you are uncomfortable, if something hurts, or if you dont like something they are doing. Please dont assume that anything is "supposed to hurt" or "they know best, maybe its supposed to feel that way." If you have any doubt or questions, please dont hesitate to tell us or ask. You are the expert of your own body, trust your instincts and flag your therapist down. The first few massages will be learning how your body feels and responds and your therapists instincts only go so far.

  • Relax, sleep, snore or talk during your massage. Theres no need to help your therapist during the session such as moving arms out of the way or lifting legs, just be limp and relaxed and melt into the table. If your therapist does need help for a particular technique, such as NMT, they will let you know.

  • NOTE: We dont care about your body hair, if you shaved your legs or not, cellulite, or the noises your tummy may make- which is normal and part of the relaxation response. Your therapist works with many clients a day and there is nothing wrong with being human on our tables. If you believe your body is flawed in any way, rest assured we thoroughly disagree with you.

  • After the massage is over, our main goal is to float you on out. Your therapist may ask a few questions like "how do you feel?" or "how is your ROM compared to when you first came in?" You may also be given a stretch or small exercise that your therapist suggests. Other than that, we will collect our fees and will ask if youd like to schedule your next session today or online and then we will see you on your way.
